Break settings

Should TwoWork track breaks?

When employees stop their work registration, TwoWork can ask them how long their break was. The break minutes are subtracted from working time before payroll.

You'll find the toggle on the Company page under "Break registration":

  • On (default): Employees pick a break length when they stop work - 0, 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
  • Off: Employees don't see the break selector. Every minute they register counts as working time.

When to turn the break selector off

A lot of companies choose to disable break registration. Two common reasons:

1. Breaks longer than 60 minutes

The break selector only goes up to 60 minutes. If your team takes a 90-minute lunch, the selector can't capture it accurately.

2. You want exact break tracking

The break selector relies on the employee remembering how long their break was. Some managers prefer that employees stop the timer when they go on break and start it again when they return. The gap between stop and start is the exact break - no estimating.

What about CheckPoint?

The same setting controls CheckPoint. With break registration on, employees see a popup asking for break length when they clock out. With it off, they clock out without being asked - and any break during the day is handled by clocking out and back in on the tablet, giving you exact start and end times.

Pick the approach that matches your team

  • Same break every day (e.g. 30 min lunch)? Leave the selector on - it's quick and predictable.
  • Variable or long breaks? Turn it off and have employees stop/start the timer instead. You'll get to-the-minute accuracy.
